Jewel Tours was founded in 1995 by Mohammed Sarem of Sanaa. He currently employs several French-, German-, and
English-speaking drivers and guides.
Mr. Sarem still leads his travelling-agency by himself and accompanies his visitors on their journeys through
Yemen.

born in 1957 in the town of Hajja, a provincial, mountain-town in the north of Yemen.
Whenever he had been free on his school holidays he had joined his grandfather's flock of camels and
travelled around the country from the famours "frankincense-road" to the Red Sea. He had learned much
about his country, its ways and living with nature on trips like these.
After his beloved Grandfather had died Mohammed wanted to keep this tradition up, but sadly his family sold all of
his Grandfather's camels. Mohammed left his hometown and crossed the country by foot until he arrived in Sanaa.
He immediately started working for local tourist-agencies, but having one on his own was his real dream. His intention
was to show the beauty and pureness that the country has in store beside the standard travelling-routes
to visitors from all over the world.
Economic aspects have leaded him to Saudi Arabia. Mohammed joined a huge and highly respected travelling-agency and
started organizing trips to the Mekka and Medina hadj for his guests. Working hard paid our well and he soon raised
enaugh funds to start his own travelling-agency back in the country of Yemen.
Since these days Mohammed is showing his beautiful country to tourists which allows him to live out his enthusiasm for
the countryside and of course the country itsself. When the touristic season is over, Mohammed usually spends his
time in Europe to improve his language-skills and to get to know more about the ways of Europe and its people.
The authors of the book "Reise Know How Jemen" (currently available in German language only),
the first choice when it comes to travelling-books about Yemen were supported by Mr. Sarem during their stay in the country.
Both of them have been very grateful for Mohammed's outstanding knowledge about the country of Yemen and his never-ending
patience in dealing with all people they met on their journeys.

"When paradise is up in the sky, it must be above Sanaa. When it's under the soil we walk on,
it must be below Sanaa."
is how the locals express it.
